Avril Lavigne-Early Years

Born on September 27, 1984, and raised in the small town of Napanee, Ontario, Avril Lavigne discovered her passion for music at a young age by singing in local talent shows, church choirs, and county fairs. Her raw vocal talent first captured major attention at just 14 years old when she won a radio contest to sing a live duet with country superstar Shania Twain in front of 20,000 people. Shortly after, her distinct voice was spotted by a manager during a performance at a local bookstore, setting her on a fast track to stardom. Driven by her vision, Avril made the bold choice to drop out of high school at age 16, moving first to New York City and then Los Angeles to write music. Her rebellious edge caught the attention of music executive L.A. Reid, leading to a $1.25 million contract with Arista Records. By rejecting the polished bubblegum pop of the early 2000s in favor of a raw, pop-punk and alternative rock sound, she forged her own path and created an authentic style that would soon define a generation.
