Company Outlook
Most companies look for graphic designers that have a Bachelors Degree in graphic design or a related field, such as animation, industrial design, and web development. When applying to an internship or professional job, candidates should have a creative portfolio showing a variety of their work. Also, there are no specific tests that a graphic designer must take to be admitted into a college.

College & High School Courses
Some of the mandatory courses in college graphic design programs are studio art, principles of design, computerized design, commercial graphics production, printing techniques, and website design. It is also recommended that students take courses in writing, marketing and business. Its never too early to start taking graphic design courses, especially when planning for the future. Some recommended high school electives include commercial art, computer applications, desktop publishing, drawing, painting, graphic arts, printing, graphic design, and web design. Not all high schools offer these courses, but there are plenty of other options available (detailed in “High School Programs” section).
